The Health Lottery celebrates 10 years at the heart of communities throughout Great Britain
We are thrilled to be celebrating 10 years of supporting worthy local causes which bring vital help to local communities across Great Britain.
Over £121 million has been raised through The Health Lottery (THL) for more than 3,000 diverse community groups in our first decade. These support grassroots projects which champion mental and physical wellbeing alongside community development. During this special celebratory year, we are highlighting some of the life-enhancing charities that have been helped.
Everything from boxing gyms which have produced Olympians in Portsmouth to community swimming pools in Wales to deaf social clubs in Scotland have been funded by People’s Health Trust using money raised through The Health Lottery. This support has helped community led causes which put local people at the heart of their decision-making process.
£158 million has been won in prizes over the years, and winners often cite the money used from ticket sales to fund community projects as a key reason for choosing to play The Health Lottery. During the COVID-19 pandemic, People’s Health Trust helped to fund projects so that their crucial community role did not diminish during such uncertain and difficult times. Funding raised through The Health Lottery often ensured that local charities could continue to support their beneficiaries during the pandemic by providing video chat software to maintain contact.
Our Managing Director, Martin Ellice, said: “The past 18 months have shown everyone the importance of community. The pandemic has shown how important dedicated volunteers are to their communities and we will continue to support them for many years to come.”
“Although we are celebrating The Health Lottery’s birthday, we are also keen to celebrate the charities and volunteers who ensure the funds we raise truly make a difference. We celebrate them today as well.
