It couldn’t have been better timing for Jane, a part-time worker at her local supermarket.
Her husband John, 44, was recovering from a knee op. It would be months before he could return to work as a self-employed builder.
Jane had been grabbing all the extra shifts she could at Sainsbury’s, but it just wasn’t enough to be able to treat themselves and their kids, Jordan, 21, Paige, 19, and Harry, 15.
Jane had played the National Lottery for years and not won a thing, when she put £20 into her new Health Lottery account.
The next day, she drove John to the shops. As he limped off, she stayed in the car and checked her phone – an email from The Health Lottery flashed up. There was £10,000 in her account!
A mistake – surely? She rang The Health Lottery helpline and started gabbling to the lady who answered. ‘It’s an error, I only signed up yesterday!’ she said. But after checking, the helpline was able to confirm that Jane had won big on her first day as an online player!
Harry got a new mountain bike, Paige got a laptop and Jordan’s getting driving lessons. And the whole family will be going on a fantastic holiday to Portugal next August.
